Inspired by the towering shields used by medieval crossbowmen, the Pavise Shield was a battlefield staple from the 14th to 16th centuries. These large, curved shields were designed to provide full-body cover during sieges and open-field engagements, giving ranged troops the precious protection they needed while reloading under fire.
